Trinidad & Tobago’s flying 200-meter
world record holder goes into Paris as the
nation’s best hope for an Olympic medal.
Nicholas Paul’s blistering speed will be
on full display at the Olympic
Velodrome, where the quiet man of
track sprinting transforms into a red,
white & black blur, continuing his
trajectory towards winning the one honour
that is missing from his and his nation’s
collection: an Olympic cycling medal.
A relaxed but confident Paul was
interviewed by Sheldon Waithe two
months before the Olympic Games.

SW: Nicholas, in the three years since the
Tokyo Olympics and the disqualification
in the quarterfinals of the Sprint, you have
been busy, with Commonwealth and
Pan Am Games gold medals, two silver
medals at the World Championships,
plus a host of other medals at the
global level. How have you
progressed since Tokyo?
NP: It’s been a long while since
Tokyo, the sport has come a long
way and I’ve been doing the hard
work and reaping the benefits.
It’sbeen a hard three years, lots
of ups and downs, but at this
point I’m in a great place, with
great form; now its just to hold it
until the big day.
